Facilities
Sitting/dining room with color TV, DVD and Internet. Dining table with chairs, a 3-4 seater sofa, which is easily converted into a comfortable bed for 2 persons;
1 bedroom with comfortable Double bed and a nice sitting area;
Fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, stove, etc.;
Sanitary room with rain shower, toilet and sink;
And a covered outdoor area for ‘storage’;
The entire first floor is well equipped with closet/storage space;
Separate storage for your bicycle on the ground floor. For guests (on cyclingholidays) who bring their own bikes. No space for rented bicycles.
The B&B does not have a (chair)lift. Unfortunately our B&B has poor access for disabled persons, because of the steep stairs in the building.
The history of the building
The building dates from the early 1600. During the renovation, a so called iron bar was discovered with a rich hand-carved bar at the front, depicting laurel branches. This discovery proved that the property to be older than originally thought. The iron bar is located in the ‘Blue Room’, your sitting/dining room. The building is a monument with the colors that were formerly used. Your bedroom is called for example the ‘Green Room’. The roof has been repaired (much was sacrificed in the Second World War as firewood) and the color was changed into the monumental dark red color (currently home of the resident).
The house has a rich history, it used to be an Amsterdam pub with ‘private ladies’ living upstairs (with their own entrance at the back, now used as a bicycle storage area), housing for the court of the late King Louis Napoleon who was at that time (around 1808 ) living in the Royal Palace on the Damsquare. Then the building became, as in all street surrounding, a residential facility and had large families living here.
The neighborhood also had all the small traders. In the street you could find a potato farmer, sausage shop, watchmaker, machine shop, lending household items, etc. The ground floor has always been a shop/ small business facillity. Like a recordshop, diamond and curio shop or restaurant. The scene has totally changed over the years into a shopping area. The hospitality industry has remained.
Petit-restaurant Gartine
On the ground floor, of B&B, you can find a highly respected petit restaurant. At Gartine breakfast is being served from 10′clock in the morning, with a reduced rate as B&B guests. Should you wish, please let us know, we can make your reservations and the breakfast in your B&B space wil not be purchased.
In the near area of the B&B
In the neighborhood of the B&B you can visit various known restaurants, lunchrooms, cafes, snackbars, too many options to mention here. At your B&B we have charts and booklets available and of course personal advice.

And culteral festivals like the Prinsengrachtconcert and the Uitmarkt, various exhibitions and events, the canalcruises, the hop-on hop-off bus etc.
