Jon and Bettina Bockelmann-Evans

We are Jon and Bettina. We live in Wales, UK, with our two teenage children. Jon is Welsh and Bettina is German though she now has UK citizenship as well. We first came across Sotogrande when our son spent a year at the Soto Tennis Academy. After taking time to explore the whole region we discovered the magical little community that is Calle Polo Sur on the northern edge of San Enrique de Guadiaro. The ultra-modern architecture set against the lush green avocado orchards of the neighbouring fields took our breath away and we knew we’d found what we were looking for.  Eight months later one of the houses was ours and our dream of owning a holiday home in Spain had begun. We call the house Casa de la Risa, which means House of Laughter, as Jon works in the wellbeing industry as a Laughter Yoga Teacher Trainer and conference speaker. Bettina is an engineer and academic. Her work involves finding and funding innovative projects to help the South Wales region achieve its net carbon zero objectives. We’ve done our best to create a welcoming, comfortable and paired-back vibe in the house, using natural materials with minimal fuss and clutter as an antidote to the busy, hectic world that so many of us live in these days.  We hope you enjoy your time at Casa de la Risa as much as we do when we stay there.
